Fox has tapped Ann Calfas to the newly created position of exec VP of labor relations and employment litigation.
Studio said that the move, announced Monday, is meant to consolidate two closely related areas that frequently work together and routinely address overlapping issues. Appointment was announced jointly by Greg Gelfan, exec VP of Fox Filmed Entertainment, and Gary Roberts, exec VP of Fox Group Legal.
Calfas will report directly to both Gelfan and Roberts.
Fox also announced that longtime labor relations veteran Dean Ferris, Fox Group’s exec VP of labor relations, will retire in the spring of 2012. Ferris has signed a two-year deal which calls for him to serve as Fox’s lead negotiator in the upcoming guild negotiations, as well as in key Fox Television Stations labor matters.
The Alliance of Motion Pictures & Television Producers is set to begin seven weeks of talks with the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists over the master contract covering features and primetime.
Calfas will immediately assume responsibility of the day-to-day operations of the department. She returns to Fox after having served for nearly 14 years as head of Fox’s employment law group before departing in 2008.
