Fortissimo racks up sales on ‘Reign,’ ‘Bone’

'Hairdresser,' 'Road, Movie' land pacts

Fortissimo Films, the Hong Kong and Dutch-based sales, finance and production entity, has closed a number of significant deals in the market.

The John Woo and Terence Chang-produced “Reign of Assassins,” starring Michelle Yeoh, has been acquired by Lionsgate for the U.K. Pic has also been sold to Film Depot/Volga Films for Russia and the Baltics and United King for Israel.

Debra Granik’s “Winter’s Bone” has been acquired by Paradiso for Benelux, Pretty Pictures for France, Look Now for Switzerland, Lusomundo for Portugal and Vivarto for Poland, with deals currently being finalized for Scandinavian distribution.

Doris Dorrie’s “Hairdresser” has been sold to Paradiso for Benelux, United King for Israel and Vivarto for Poland plus multiple offers for Korea.

Dev Benegal’s “Road, Movie,” screening in Generations, has been acquired by Senator Film for Germany, Madman for Australia and New Zealand, Paradiso for Benelux, United King for Israel, with a deal for North America being finalized.

Takashi Shimizu’s “Shock Labyrinth: Extreme 3-D” has been acquired by Cathay for Singapore and Queen Cinema for Indonesia. These sales follow previous completed deals to more than 30 territories including Germany, the CIS, Mexico, Eastern Europe, UK and Taiwan.

Anh Hung Tran’s “Norwegian Wood,” which made its market preem at the EFM, has been sold to Vertigo for Spain and United King for Israel.

“We’ve done some business even if it’s still an uneven and fractured market,” said Fortissimo co-chairman Michael J. Werner.
