Christoph Waltz and Fox Intl. Prods. are teaming on German romantic comedy “Auf und Davon,” which marks Waltz’s feature directorial debut.
The Oscar-winning actor penned the script, and will co-star, Fox announced Thursday.
“Auf und Davon” revolves around a ruthless host of a dating show who finds herself in over her head when the show’s storyline intersects with her own feelings for a contestant.
“We are very proud to collaborate with him on his very own project, set in his home country for him to debut as feature film director,” Fox Intl. Prods. prexy Sanford Panitch said.
Waltz’s script is loosely based on Meike Winnemuth and Peter Praschl’s novel of the same name. Waltz hasn’t decided whether he’ll co-star in the film, or take a smaller role.
Thesp also is set to star in Fox 2000’s “Water for Elephants,” opposite Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson.
Fox’s first Chinese-language film “Hot Summer Days,” has grossed nearly $20 million to date.
