Producer returns for post-Oscars affair
For the 21st consecutive year, Cheryl Cecchetto has been tapped to produce the Governors Ball. Cecchetto is working with her Sequoia Prods. team and Governors Ball chairman Jeffrey Kurland to produce the annual event, which follows the Academy Awards in the Grand Ballroom at Hollywood and Highland on March 7.
Also returning is Wolfgang Puck, who is creating the ball’s menu for 1,500 guests with chefs Lee Hefter and Matt Bencivenga. Oscar-themed dishes will include smoked salmon, crackers and chocolate desserts all shaped like the statuette, with an entree of chicken pot pie with truffles.
This will be the first year Kurland, an Oscar-nominated costume designer and Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences governor, will act as chairman. He is overseeing the decor, menu and entertainment, as well as designing attire for the evening’s performers.
For the first time, winners will be able to have their statuettes personalized with an engraved nameplate at the ball. This used to occur in the weeks following the kudofest. The Acad will prepare 197 nameplates, one for each of the 2009 noms, with the unused nameplates recycled.
