Art Directors re-elect Walsh prexy

Prexy defeats challenger Nelson Coates

Thomas A. Walsh has been re-elected president of the 2,000-member Art Directors Guild, defeating challenger Nelson Coates by a narrow margin.

Walsh won a third three-year term as top elected leader of the guild, which operates as Local 800 of the Intl. Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees.

The guild also announced Tuesday that Chad Frey had been elected VP, while past secretary Cate Bangs won the race for treasurer. Secretary is Liza Frazza. All will serve three-year terms.

The guild absorbed two smaller locals in 2008 — Local 790 Illustrators & Matte Artists and Local 847 Set Designers and Model Makers — at the direction of national IATSE leaders. Walsh supported those moves, which were a key issue in the election.
