Arclight likes Pacino’s ‘Lear’

Thesp reteams with helmer Radford for another Bard drama

Arclight Films has taken international sales on Al Pacino starrer “King Lear,” to be helmed by Michael Radford, set for a shoot next spring in the U.K.

Pre-production is scheduled for October on the previously announced Shakespeare adaptation that reteams Pacino and Radford after their collaboration on “The Merchant of Venice,” in which Pacino played Shylock.

Producer Barry Navidi has also recruited d.p. Benoit Delhomme and costume designer Sammie Sheldon, both of whom worked on Radford’s “Merchant.”

Navidi is currently casting other roles.

“King Lear” will mark the third collaboration between Pacino and Navidi, who also produced Pacino’s upcoming Oscar Wilde adaptation “Wilde Salome,” which Pacino directed and also stars in, now in post.

While Pacino has played many Shakespearean characters, he has never played King Lear before, onstage or onscreen.

Pic is being financed with private equity and the U.K. tax rebate, in association with Belgium’s E-Motion fund. The budget was not disclosed.
