‘Shrek’ tops Friday box office

Animated sequel bests 'Greek' and 'Killers'

For the third Friday in a row, Paramount’s “Shrek Forever After” earned the most green.

The 3D animated pic took in an estimated $6.7 million in 4,386 runs on Friday, besting several new films that opened this week.

Universal’s “Get Him to the Greek” grabbed the No. 2 spot on Friday with an estimated $6.2 million in 2,697 engagements. Lionsgate’s “Killers,” which co-stars Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl, earned about $5.6 million in 2,859 runs. The Warner Bros. sequel “Sex and the City” earned an estimated $4.2 million in 3,445 engagements, while Disney’s video game adaptation “Prince of Persia” came in at No. 5 with about $4 million in 3,646 runs.

Fox’s “Marmaduke” took the No. 6 spot with about $3.4 million in 3,213 runs. The Warner Bros. sci-fier “Splice” followed with roughly $2.7 million in 2,450 runs. Paramount’s “Iron Man 2” grabbed the No. 8 spot, earning about $2.1 million in 3,007 engagements. Rounding out the bottom two were Universal’s “Robin Hood” (roughly $1.4 million in 2,599 runs) and Summit’s “Letters to Juliet” (about $960,000 in 1,962 engagements).
