The Night Before Party
Where: Beverly Hills Hotel
Who’s expected: Hosts Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw, George Clooney, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
Why you don’t want to miss it: The bash benefits the Motion Picture and Television Fund, the nonprofit organization that helps people in the entertainment industry with health, social services and retirement. Plus: If even half that guest list shows up, it’s a hot party.

Who’s expected: The five 2009 nominees for foreign-language film from Israel, France, Argentina, Germany and Peru
Why you don’t want to miss it: A morning meeting of the minds, as nominated directors from distant lands discuss and show clips of their films. This general admission event is sold out, but a standby line starts at 8 a.m. The two-hour show begins at 10.

Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Symposium
Where: Samuel Goldwyn Theater at the Academy
Who’s expected: The three 2009 nominees for makeup: Aldo Signoretti and Vittorio Sodano for “Il Divo”; Barney Burman, Mindy Hall and Joel Harlow for “Star Trek”; Jon Henry Gordon and Jenny Shircore for “The Young Victoria”

The Weinstein Co.’s Academy Award-Nominated Films Party
Where: SoHo House West Hollywood
Who’s expected: Bob and Harvey Weinstein and their crew of nominees, from Quentin Tarantino, Christoph Waltz and Penelope Cruz to Colin Firth and Tom Ford, along with their famous friends
Why you don’t want to miss it: A late evening cocktail party filled with Oscar hopefuls from “Nine,” “A Single Man” and “Inglourious Basterds.” It benefits UNICEF via a seven-figure donation from Montblanc, so it is a party with a purpose.

Sony Pictures Classics Oscar Party
