Sid Ganis has been tapped to produce the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ second annual Governors Awards, set for Nov. 13.
Last year, the Acad for the first time held a ceremony separate from the Oscars to bestow its honorary kudos, including the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award and Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. This year’s honorees will be chosen by the AMPAS board of governors in late August.
Ganis is the immediate past prexy of AMPAS and reps the public relations branch on the board. A former studio exec, Ganis’ recent pic producing credits include “Akeelah and the Bee,” “Big Daddy” and “Mr. Deeds.”
“Sid is the perfect person to produce our second Governors Awards ceremony,” said AMPAS prexy Tom Sherak. “Last year’s Governors Awards was a very special evening for all of us and I know Sid will build on that success and take the evening to the next level.”
