Friday’s soirees for Oscar

Plenty of fun before the Oscars

Vanity Fair/BMW Drive Experience
Where: From Greystone to the Getty
Who’s expected: The magazine’s favorite celebrity car enthusiasts
Why you don’t want to miss it: It’s a chance to benefit the Art of Elysium while roaring through the Hollywood Hills in a BMW 650i convertible or X6 Active Hybrid, on what VF’s Edward Menicheschi calls a “European road-style course setup,” that culminates in “a fabulous lunch at the Getty hosted by Stacey Bendet and Eric Eisner.”

17th Annual Multicultural Motion Picture Assn. Student Filmmakers Luncheon
Where: Montage Beverly Hills
Who’s expected: Honorees Lee Daniels and the cast of “Precious,” Quinton Aaron, Tom Ford, David Scaerce, Anika Noni Rose, Kim Myers, Shelley Jo Reesman
Why you don’t want to miss it: The hot names of tomorrow getting scholarships today to help them break into Hollywood. Presenters include current and past Oscar nominees.

25th Spirit Awards and After-Party
Where: L.A. Live
Who’s expected: Host Eddie Izzard and nominees including Jeff Bridges, Helen Mirren, Gabourey Sidibe, Maria Bello, Colin Firth, Tom Ford, Mo’Nique, Lee Daniels
Why you don’t want to miss it: It’s a big shift this year for the Spirit Awards, from Saturday’s traditional afternoon tent party on the beach in Santa Monica to a more glittery Friday night fete in downtown L.A. Still in a tent but now at L.A. Live, with an after-party at Club Nokia, where Jameson’s Irish Whiskey will help independent film’s best dance the night away.

Isaac Mizrahi QVC Red Carpet Style Party
Where: The Four Seasons Beverly Hills
Who’s expected: Host Isaac Mizrahi and his fashionista friends including Rachel Zoe, Cindy Crawford, Mark Bouwer, Lori Goldstein
Why you don’t want to miss it: QVC is staking claim to Oscar style, with a live broadcast from the garden at the Four Seasons. Why right now? Because “the people who are on our network are at the top of their game, like stylist Rachel Zoe, who will be working with some of the biggest actresses today for the Academy Awards show,” says Jamie Falkowski, director of media relations for QVC. “What better time to have a celebration than Oscar weekend? It doesn’t make sense for us to come in on an off week, we wanted to come in when everyone is there anyway and people can see that we are a player.”

WME Party
Where: Ari Emanuel’s house
Who’s expected: Lotsa WME clients
Why you don’t want to miss it: Power agents and pretty people could make a deal.
