CAS announces mixing noms

'Avatar,' 'Transformers' draw nominations

Studio tentpoles “Avatar,” “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and “Star Trek” vie with indies “District 9” and “The Hurt Locker” for the Cinema Audio Society’s motion picture sound mixing kudos.

TV series competing for honors are “24,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Glee” and “Mad Men.”

Nonfiction/variety/music TV nominees, which compete separately, are “Deadliest Catch,” “The National Parks,” “Nova — Extreme Ice,” “The Metropolitan Opera Opening Night Gala Starring Renee Fleming” and “Woodstock: Now and Then.”

The CAS Awards will be presented Feb. 27 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. That night the org will also present its career achievement award to Skywalker Sound’s Randy Thom and its filmmaker award to “Coraline” helmer Henry Selick.
