WGAE inks for Internet biz

Guild signs 23 new digital media signatories

Touting its focus on organizing new media work, the Writers Guild of America East has announced that it has signed 23 new digital media signatories this year.

Wednesday’s announcement noted that the made-for-Internet signings represent more than double the number of digital signatories signed last year by the WGA East, brining the total of such deals to 43. As a result of the new contracts, 28 writers have become new guild members.

The deals are are part of a push at the guild to recruit indie production ventures early on rather than having to organize their scribes on a project-by-project basis later on. The WGA West announced earlier this year that it had signed its 33rd digital company.

The WGA gained jurisdiction over writing for made-for-Internet companies two years ago following the 2007-08 strike.

“Writers working in digital media are increasingly interested in guild membership and in the benefits and protections it provides,” said WGA East exec director Lowell Peterson. New WGA East signatories are Atticus Entertainment, Jack In A Box, Gravity Sleeps, Aaron Kheifets Project, Gotham The Series, Wiener & Wiener, The Mimi & Flo Show, Missed Connections Live, One Part Robot Productions, porNO — microNORMOUS, Latinowood Media, Then We Got Help!, Asparagus – Sinkhole Prods., Drama Queenz, Don’t Shoot the Pharmacist, Red Rope Prods., Monte Montgomery Prods., Whitebridge Farms Prods., Full Body Wag Prods., The Puzzle Maker’s Son, Anyone But Me and Hot Garbage Video. WGA East signatory Dinosaur Diorama also signed a contract for new show RFP.
