Digital Entertainment Group pursues consumers

Trade org Digital Entertainment Group has created a unit to promote 3D in the home.

Called DEG 3D Working Group, the entity consists of DEG studio and manufacturer members and is chaired by Warner Home Video veep Kris Brown. Its sked calls for meetings every other week, and it has already met twice via conference call, said DEG associate director Lyndsey Schaefer.

The unit aims to coordinate consumer messaging with the DEG Communications Committee and create consumer education materials, including a glossary of 3D terminology.

In addition to Warner, which is repped by Brown, the group’s members hail from Microsoft, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, Fox and Disney. Retailers are not part of the group but “we’re soliciting feedback from them,” Schaefer said.

Unit will focus on all 3D-compatible platforms, including Blu-ray 3D, cable, satellite and the Internet. The goal is to push the platform’s benefits to retailers and consumers “while creating a united messaging strategy that properly positions and promotes 3D at home,” per a DEG statement.

Additionally, DEG will host a 3D home entertainment forum on June 2 in Los Angeles.

The afternoon event is open only to DEG members and will target “key factors affecting 3D development, distribution and deployment over a variety of consumer electronics and IT devices.”

DEG’s membership includes studios, production companies, technology service providers, manufacturers and retailers.
