Audio post-production house Todd-AO is the first sound facility to install Christie Solaria series projectors to boost its digital cinema capabilities.A 4K-ready Christie CP2230 projetor is operating on one of the facility’s larger feature-film mixing stages and has already been used on this summer’s “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” Todd-AO, a division of CSS Studios, provides sound-related post-production services for motion pictures and television. The company operates three Todd-AO facility locations in the Los Angeles area. CSS Studios also operates a facility in New York, Sound One, where it plans to install an additional two Christie projectors. The company’s history dates back several decades; it won awards in 1955 for the movie musical “Oklahoma.” More recently it worked on “Inglourious Basterds” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.” Bill Johnston, senior veep, engineering at CSS Studios, noted that 4K resolution is moving toward becoming the industry standard and that it was important for the projectors to provide 4K upgradability, in addition to full 3D capabilities.
