'Face of the Fan' to widen talent scouting
Sony announced Friday its Face of the Fan initiative, an online interactive casting call, that allows industry fans to partake in talent sourcing for all Sony platforms, including film, TV and online.
The program will kick off with Sony/Screen Gems’ fourth “Underworld” installment.
As part of the Sony fan program, industry junkies can download film-specific audition tapes onto the program’s web site, www.faceofthefan.com. Submitted videos will be judged by a panel of studio and production execs; Sony described the unnamed “Underworld” role as a pivotal female teenager.
“The Face of the Fan program enables us to source people from all over the country to find unknown talent and give them a shot at something they may not have otherwise been able to do,” said Screen Gems prexy Clint Culpepper.
Other upcoming Sony projects to use the viral casting call include Screen Gems’ “Mortal Instruments” and Columbia Pictures and Sony Animation’s toon hybrid “The Smurfs,” which is set to unspool Aug. 3.
Sony TV’s “Wheel of Fortune” will also participate.
