Move seems to confirm a more consumer slant for trade

The Hollywood Reporter has named OK! Magazine alum Lori Burgess as publisher.

The appointment of the consumer-mag veteran fuels talk that the trade paper is aiming to broaden its audience beyond the industry.

Burgess became publisher of the celeb-focused OK! in October 2008, and prior to that was senior vice president, publishing director of luxe-centric Niche Media, the company that now publishes 16 mags including Los Angeles Confidential, Gotham and Hamptons.

Exact plans for the Hollywood Reporter have not been announced. The paper, along with a handful of other Nielsen Business Media titles, was purchased late last year by e5 Global Media, which is said to be targeting the title toward a wide consumer audience.

Burgess — who has had stints at magazines including House & Garden, Elle, Mademoiselle and Seventeen — replaces Eric Mika, who exited last month as the Hollywood Reporter publisher.
