Pittman to fund GeekChicDaily

Exec to fund online newsletter for all things geek

Bob Pittman is letting his geek flag fly, investing mid-six figures in GeekChicDaily, the online newsletter for all things film, TV, videogames, comicbooks, toys and gadgetry.

The digital pub bowed as a free daily email blast and website late last year (Daily Variety, Oct. 16, 2009).

The former MTV and AOL Time Warner exec ponied up the coin with his partner Andrew Russell, who will join GeekChicDaily’s advisory board, as part of the investment.

Other members include former DailyCandy CEO Pete Sheinbaum, Broadway Video CEO Jack Sullivan, Habbo senior VP Teemu Huuhtanen, Akinobu Yorihiro of Yoshimoto Kogyo, and Striker Entertainment’s Russell Binder.

“Their domain expertise and understanding of the model; where it’s been and where it’s going is crucial to our roadmap,” said Peter Levin of the investment.

Levin, who recently brokered the sale of Nikki Finke’s blog DeadlineHollywoodDaily to Mail.com, and was an early investor in Gamespy Industries, an operator of videogame-related websites, launched and runs GeekChicDaily with Gareb Shamus, publisher and founder of Wizard Entertainment.

Wizard currently publishes Wizard, ToyFare and FunFare magazines and owns and operates 12 Comic-Cons across the U.S. Other investors in GeekChicDaily include Mandalay Entertainment Group’s Peter Guber, Japanese media giant Yoshimoto Kogyo and the Jel Sert Corp.
