Concert film will start one-week run on April 30
“Phish 3D,” featuring live performances by the titular band shot at the group’s 2009 Festival 8, will open nationwide April 30 for a one-week run.
Two-hour feature, presented by Action 3D Prods. in association with AEG’s Network Live division and Cinedigm Digital Cinema, will receive preview screenings April 20 in nine U.S. markets: Boston; Chicago; Denver; Houston; Los Angeles; New York; Burlington, Vt.; Raleigh/Durham, N.C.; and Washington, D.C.
The footage is drawn from the long-running jam band’s three-day fest, held in October at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, Calif., site of the annual Coachella and Stagecoach fests. Pic will feature material culled from Phish’s Halloween “musical costume” cover performance of the Rolling Stones’ “Exile on Main St.,” plus excerpts from band’s first-ever full-length acoustic set.
The limited engagement is the latest installment in the In Concert 3D series that began in December with “Larger Than Life in 3D,” featuring the Dave Matthews Band, Ben Harper & Relentless7 and Gogol Bordello from footage shot over last summer.
Cinedigm, which installs the technology for theaters to convert from film projection to digital 3D, also has been involved in staging live 3D sporting events such as last year’s NBA All-Star Game, college football’s championship and the upcoming NCAA Final Four matchups in Indianapolis.
Tickets for preview screenings of “Phish 3D” will go on sale today via phish3dmovie.com.
