James Cameron, Steve Jobs, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer are among those named to the Producers Guild of America’s 2010 Digital 25: Visionaries, Innovators and Producers list.
Separately, the PGA has tapped Cameron to receive its Milestone award for his contributions to the entertainment industry.
The Digital 25 honorees will be presented with their kudos at an Oct. 18 cocktail and dinner reception hosted by comedian Kevin Pollak as part of the Variety Entertainment and Technology Summit. Event is being held in conjunction with the Digital Hollywood Conference at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel.
This is the third year the PGA has compiled its list, intended to recognize individuals and teams that have made the year’s most significant contributions to the advancement of digital entertainment and storytelling in seven categories: Internet (broadband), interactive television, visual and digital effects, console and PC (multi-user online) gaming, home entertainment and mobile and digital animation.
Cameron will receive the Milestone award Jan. 22 at the PGA’s 22nd annual award show at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
“James Cameron is an exceptionally talented producer — a true innovator with the rare combination of technical ingenuity and creative vision,” said Paula Wagner, chair of the 2011 PGA awards. “Jim has continued to change the film landscape with his ability to deliver ground-breaking masterpieces that present audiences and the industry with unrivaled beauty, originality and impact.”
The PGA noted that Cameron’s “Avatar” holds both the domestic and worldwide box office records with over $2.7 billion at the global B.O., beating Cameron’s “Titanic.” Past recipients include Clint Eastwood, Walt Disney, Katzenberg, Alfred Hitchcock, Brian Grazer and Ron Howard.
The 2010 “Digital 25” honorees were selected by a panel of digital entertainment experts from a long list of companies including Mahalo, MySpace, Facebook, AOL, Time Inc. and Microsoft.
