Lionsgate goes 3D with ‘North’

Crest Animation will partner on the family film

Lionsgate and Crest Animation Studios are partnering on the 3D animated family feature “Norm of the North” as the second film in their three-picture deal.

The companies made the announcement jointly Monday; Lionsgate will distribute in North America.

Completion of production on “Norm” is anticipated in the first quarter of 2012. Steven and Daniel Altiere penned the script.

“Norm” centers on a polar bear who finds shelter in an abandoned research station when his Arctic home begins cracking and collapsing beneath him. He’s accompanied by three Arctic lemmings who instinctively copy Norm’s every move.

First film in the partnership is CG-animated feature “Alpha and Omega,” voiced by Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere, Christina Ricci, Danny Glover, Dennis Hopper and Larry Miller. “Alpha,” helmed by Anthony Bell and Ben Gluck, is expected to open in October.
