3D stunt pic takes top spot with $21.7 mil

The top spot Friday at the box office was taken by a couple of jackasses.

Paramount scored a major hit on Friday with “Jackass 3D,” which raked in about $21.7 million in 3,081 engagements. The crazy stunt film far outpaced its closest competitor, Summit’s “Red,” which earned about $7.1 million in 3,255 runs. Sony’s “The Social Network” is still hanging in there, and took the No. 3 position on Friday with about $3.3 million in 2,868 engagements. “Life As We Know It” earned Warner Bros. about $3 million in 3,150 engagements for the No. 4 position, and Disney’s “Secretariat” took the No. 5 spot, with $2.8 million in 3,072 runs.

The next two spots were dominated by more Warner Bros. pics; both “The Town” ($1.2 million in 2,368 runs) and “Legends of the Guardians:” ($1 million in 2,502 runs) grabbed the No. 6 and No. 7 positions respectively.

Universal’s 3D scarer “My Soul To Take” earned about $999,000 in 2,529 engagements, while Sony’s ‘Easy A” took in roughly $845,000 in 2,314 runs. Fox’s sequel “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” took the No. 10 spot with about $716,000 in 2,045 engagements.
