IFC catches Katz’s ‘Cold’

Distributor sets video-on-demand release

IFC Films has snagged North American and multiple foreign rights to “Cold Weather,” the Aaron Katz pic that had a well-received bow at SXSW in March.

IFC will release the film through IFC in Theaters, the platform that makes movies available via VOD the same day as the theatrical release.

Written, helmed and edited by Katz, “Cold Weather” follows a twentysomething guy who finds himself enmeshed in the mystery of his ex-girlfriend’s disappearance. Brendan McFadden, Ben Stambler, and Parts and Labor’s Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy produced the pic, which stars Cris Lankenau, Trieste Kelly Dunn and Raul Castillo.

Deal was struck by Jeff Deutchman for IFC Films and Ben Stambler for the filmmakers.

No U.S. release date has yet been set. Visit Films has picked up international fest rights and sales rights for countries that aren’t part of the IFC deal. Visit will preem the pic for sales in Cannes.

“Cold Weather” will next screen at the L.A. Film Festival and BAM Cinema Fest.
