Japanese video service offers 5,000 titles

TOKYO — Digital entertainment distrib Frontier Entertainment is launching a video streaming service for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch using Google’s Android software.

Skedded to start on Tuesday, the QTV Video service will offer 5,000 titles, including pics, dramas, toons and variety shows. In a year, Frontier plans to grow this number to 30,000, including Hollywood pics, which would make the service the biggest of its type in Japan.

Users must first download free software to view the content, with one title costing from $1.21 (100 yen) to $4.85 (400 yen). Among the pics on offer are nearly 100 from Hollywood. Also, to lure viewers, 150 of the initial line-up of titles will be free of charge.
