Writer to pen English-language version of toon

MADRID — Spanish toon house Dygra Films has signed “Madagascar” screenwriter Billy Frolick to write the English-language version of Dygra’s 3D animated Christmas farce “Holy Night!.”

Budgeted at $19 million, “Night!” aims to become Spain’s earliest 3D toon movie to hit movie theaters, with Dygra planning a theatrical release by year end.

The family-adventure pic tells a fantasy story set on Christmas night, where Santa Claus’ sleigh disappears and Baby Jesus is kidnapped. Pic, now in production, is helmed by Juan Galinanes. David Munoz and Antonio Trashorras, who penned “Devil’s Backbone,” wrote the original script.
