The indie biz is tough all over, and FilmSharks Intl., an international film sales company out of Latin America, is gaining dividends from a diversification drive into marketing by partnering with the 14-month-old Trailer Co.Trailer Co., which offers tools like advertising, artwork, posters and, of course, trailers, just nabbed worldwide duties for Woody Allen’s “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger,” its biggest contract ever. More than a just a fling, the trailer venture is an effort by FilmSharks to move beyond straight sales to offer additional services to clients and third-party producers such as Mediapro & Gravier Prods. This helps build revenue even if the market for sales gets tough, says FilmSharks topper Guido Rud, who expects trailer output to grow steadily in tandem with a forecast for rising international film production. Trailer Co. will continue to target smaller films, handling production out of Buenos Aires, where a weak exchange rate allows services to be offered at almost half the cost, Rud says, with bigger productions going through Madrid. “Tall Dark Stranger” follows deals for pics such as “The Secret in Their Eyes,” made by Trailer Co. partner Miguel Angel San Antonio, who runs ops out of Madrid.
