FilmFlex launches Film4 VOD site

Service to replicate editorial line of channel

LONDON — Brit pubcaster Channel 4 has joined forces with VOD service FilmFlex, the IPTV joint venture between Sony and Disney, to launch an online on-demand service for Film4.

Film4oD, which was unveiled on Monday, has more than 500 films available to rent online ranging from £0.50p (80 cents) to £3.99 ($6.41). Titles include “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” “Shutter Island” and Film4-backed fare like “Slumdog Millionaire” and “Four Lions.”

Many titles will be available the same day as their DVD release in Blighty and rentals will allow for unlimited playback within 48 hours of purchase.

The service will closely replicate the editorial tone and content of the Film4 channel and will also amplify the seasons broadcast on Channel 4 such as sci-fi, comedy and, more recently, November’s upcoming season of crime movies, dubbed “Partners in Crime.”
