Fashionistas embrace 3D

Shows beam via stereoscopic tech in Japan, London

BS-TBS, the satellite broadcasting arm of the Tokyo Broadcasting System network, is joining with publisher Shueisha and Panasonic to simulcast a fashion show in 3D at three theaters in Japan on March 14. The fashion simulcast is aimed at widening the market for 3D beyond conventional pics.

Shueisha is recruiting the 2,200 aud members from readers of its fashion mags while exhib giant Toho is supplying the screens and Panasonic the 3D gear. The show is being staged by Nozomi Sasaki, a local supermodel.

The fashion biz has begun to embrace 3D telecasts.

Burberry streamed a 3D event last month from Fashion Week in London to screening spaces — designed by Burberry chief creative officer Christopher Bailey — in New York, Paris, Dubai, Los Angeles and Tokyo.

Canadian label NADA will launch a 3D video later this month in the runup to Canada Fashion Week, which starts March 28.

The video was produced by Tim Dashwood and directed by Grant Padley; Dashwood is a cinematographer who has published stereoscopic 3D tool plug-ins for Final Cut Studio and After Effects.

According to a NADA spokesman, the video has a “martial arts meets gladiator vibe. It’s part of a larger campaign for a fashion line described as having a “futuristic feel, very fembot.”
