‘Cropsey’ drops in June

Docu gets theatrical, VOD release

Gravitas Ventures has acquired the North American VOD rights for docu “Cropsey,” an alum of the 2009 Tribeca Film Fest, while Cinema Purgatorio has laid out a theatrical release sked beginning with a run that kicks off June 4 at IFC Center in Gotham.

Pic will be made available on VOD June 1. Theatrical runs in L.A., Denver, Austin, Boston and other cities will follow the Gotham opening.

Joshua Zeman and Barbara Brancaccio’s doc centers on the legend of Cropsey, a boogeyman said to live in an abandoned psych ward on Staten Island. Movie centers on a 1987 disappearance that stirred up speculation about the real-life existence of the urban legend.
