With over 50,000 games available on the iPhone, it’s hard to
pinpoint a single one as the iconic title of the platform. If you were going to do so,
though, “Angry Birds” would make a strong case for the crown.
The title is addictive in its gameplay and is a
regular presence in the Top selling app lists. Now, it’s expanding its reach to
other platforms. Chillingo founder Joe Wee tells The
Sun that the company is making versions of the game for the “Nintendo
DS, Sony PSP and PS3.”
The game’s a pretty basic one, if its concept is unusual. Using
a slingshot, fling a variety of, well, angry birds at well-defended pigs, who
have stolen their eggs. Simple, yes. Addictive, you bet!
Chillingo’s not the first to ride success elsewhere onto
console platforms. PopCap Games, makers of “Bejeweled” and the more recent “Plants
vs. Zombies,” ported their game to numerous platforms after seeing success in
the PC casual market.
There are, sadly, no other details at present. And Chillingo’s
not talking further. Hopefully, dates and prices will be announced soon.
Oh, and if, by chance, you’re one of the 8 people who own an
iPhone but haven’t bought the app yet, what the heck are you waiting for?
