Newmarket sets U.S. distribution deal

Company pacts with Lionsgate for homevideo

Newmarket Films has tapped Lionsgate as its exclusive U.S. homevid distributor, including DVD, Blu-ray, digital delivery, TV and video-on-demand.

Deal, announced Tuesday, covers Newmarket’s theatrical releases and most of its library, including Christopher Nolan’s “Memento.”

First title under the deal is “Creation,” starring Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly, available June 29. Other upcoming releases covered by the pact include Alejandro Amenabar’s “Agora” and “Hesher,” starring Joseph Gordon Levitt and Natalie Portman.

Newmarket, founded in 1994, was recently purchased by Exclusive Media Group and aims to theatrically release six to eight titles per year. Lionsgate noted that its recent theatrical titles “Precious” and “Brothers” exceeded industry averages both on DVD and VOD and were Lionsgate’s top VOD debuts.
