3D Entertainment Distribution has inked a deal with Universal Pictures Intl. Entertainment to release a trilogy of underwater adventure films on Blu-ray 3D.
With the deal, Universal acquires exclusive worldwide entertainment rights to “Ocean Wonderland 3D,” “Sharks 3D” and “Dolphins & Whales 3D,” previously released in IMAX theaters.
3D Entertainment will begin a staggered release of the Blu-rays in early December to France, Italy, the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand, but hardware bundling deals are still in negotiations according to NBC Universal’s Lynn Li. Announcements for Spain and Japan are coming soon.
Julien Bollee, chief operating officer at 3D Entertainment, said, “We are still in negotiations with different studios for North America (USA, Canada and Mexico). It takes longer than any other territories.”
The discs will be available for purchase from major retail and online stores, like Amazon.com. Consumers have the option to buy the films separately or in a special boxed set.
The underwater adventures, narrated by Daryl Hannah and presented by ocean explorer Jean-Michel Cousteau, take the viewer through an immersive experience with oceanic wildlife.
