Production house makes move to N. American market
In an aggressive move to establish a major presence in the U.S. entertainment market for animation, vfx and 2D-to-3D conversion services, India’s VenSat Tech Services unveiled formation of VenSat America.
The announcement was made by Satyanarayana Mudunuri and Venkatesh Roddam, exec directors of the media and entertainment company.
Veteran U.S. and India entertainment entrepreneur Ken Silverman will head the new firm as CEO, and longtime vfx producer John Follmer has signed on as exec veep and COO. Bicoastal shingle will be based in L.A. and Gotham.
As the company’s lead into the U.S. market, VenSat America is charged with developing co-prod deals in the areas of film, TV, gaming and new media linked to the VenSat’s various services. In the cards for next year: 3D TV content production and distribution, plus “strategic investments into one or more U.S. entertainment companies.”
VenSat also named David Uslan and Mohammad Ghouri as U.S. business advisors. Uslan, with experience in features, TV, comics and publishing, will focus on the growing field of motion comics. Corporate planner Ghouri will be sizing up strategic options.
VenSat’s lead investor is Indo-US Venture Partners, a venture capital firm that provides funding to new or growing businesses.
