CNN is banking on a heavy dose of social media for Larry King’s Help the Gulf telethon tonight.
The network has teamed with Gowalla, the location-based mobile and web service, in which users can check-in at any Spot in the “Parks and Nature” category and receive an official “Larry King Live: How You Can Help” pin for your Gowalla Passport, as well as information on how to help.
They also will have a presence on Facebook and Twitter, in what the network calls a “two-screen experience.”
The telethon will have a heavy dose of celebrities, but it will be interesting to see how much money is raised, given that this is not a natural disaster but one caused by a major oil giant that has accepted responsibility. Money collected will benefit the National Wildlife Federation, the United Way, and The Nature Conservancy.
