Sen. Al Franken Goes “SNL”

Al Franken is reaping praise among Democrats for sounding alarm bells on healthcare reform, in what may have been a turning point in boosting the bill's prospects, but there are also signs that he's not as uptight about his comedy roots.

The latest sign is the planned appearance this weekend by Seth Meyers at a fund-raiser in Minneapolis for Franken's Midwest Values PAC. During the campaign in 2008, the protracted recount in 2009, and the early months of his Senate term, Franken rarely cracked a joke, or did anything that could be construed as not taking the issues at hand seriously.
