If Congress pushes immigration reform, it will undoubtedly trigger many rhetorical rants from many a Fox News commentator.
But per the AP, among those pushing for a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants in the United States will be a familiar face: Rupert Murdoch.
He was among the CEOs who have joined with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg to create a coaltion advocating for immigration reform.
Appearing with Bloomberg on Fox News on Thursday, below, Murdoch said, “We’re just going to keep the pressure on the congressmen. I think we can show to the public the benefits of having migrants and the jobs that go with them.”
The group said that it will publish studies, conduct polls, convene forums and sponsor public education campaigns. The org calls itself the Partnership for a New American Economy.
Disney CEO Robert Iger is also a member of the group, and said, “To remain competitive in the 21st century, we need effective immigration reform that invites people to contribute to our shared success by building their own American dream.”
To be sure, even as Bill O’Reilly has called illegal immigration an “invasion,” Fox contributor Charles Krauthammer has supported legalization of those already in the country.
