Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.) will chair the House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology, which has a big influence on broadcasting, cable and Internet policy.

Walden, who has been in Congress since 1999, is chairman of the GOP transition committee. He's also a former broadcaster, having sold his family's five-station Columbia Gorge Broadcasting in 2007. A fellow Oregonian, former Republican Sen. Gordon Smith, is the CEO of the National Assn. of Broadcasters.
