Christine O’Donnell and “The Passion of the Christ”

Talking Points Memo chronicles Christine O’Donnell’s pursuit of notoriety, which include her past efforts touting what Ben Affleck and Al Franken have said about her.

TPM also notes that she has promoted her marketing work on “The Passion of the Christ,” including the developmentof “the pre-release marketing campaign and advanced ticketing program.” She mentions that she was a “marketing and media consultant” on the movie on her campaign’s website, but they didn’t have much luck in finding out exactly what she did.

A couple of weeks ago, I looked into this, and Mel Gibson’s publicist, Alan Nierob, confirmed that she was a vendor who did marketing work on the movie. He wasn’t familiar with exactly what she did — “a lot of people did grassroots outreach” — but he said that she did “college outreach and stuff like that.” He’s right: Many firms were involved in the massive marketing campaign for the movie — and it was little surprise that in the immediate aftermath of its release success had many parents.

Others involved in the marketing, like prominent faith-based media reps  A. Larry Ross and Paul Lauer, did not return calls for comment.
