There already are a bevy of books chronicling the 2008 presidential election, but the one that has drawn particular attention is “Game Change,” not just because it comes from two of the most plugged in scribes on the trail, Mark Halperin of Time and John Heilemann of New York magazine, but because HBO has optioned the rights for a movie project. Dream casting possibilities are endless.
Their book, set to hit bookstores on Tuesday, is previewed on “60 Minutes” on Sunday, which provides some candid details. Among them: Hillary Clinton expressed concerns about her husband, in that it “will be a circus” if she took the job as Secretary of State.
Then there’s Sarah Palin, for which there seems to be an endless trough of material, even after her own tome. Among them is just how poorly she was doing in debate preparation, including that she had a habit of calling the soon-to-be vice president “O’Biden.”
“60 Minutes” interviewed McCain campaign manager Steve Schmidt for its story about the book — certainly he had to be a source — and the Palin nemesis tells Anderson Cooper that she was so unprepared for the vice presidential debate that the campaign feared “a debacle of historic and epic proportions.”
