A New Twist in Comcast-NBC U Deal

There’s another congressional hearing today on Comcast and NBC Universal’s plans to unite — it is not technically a merger, but what most people are calling a “transaction” — and this time both companies are making new pledges.

After some criticism from Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) at a previous hearing over the number of African-American themed shows, they are taking steps to make sure they are not on the defense, which is a perilous place to be in a highly charged environment. The two companies are committing to boosting hiring practices of minorities on and off screen, as well as to make sure that at least three of six new cable channels come from the ranks of minority owned businesses.
