LONDON — Verve Pictures has scooped up U.K. distrib rights to Clio Barnard’s “The Arbor” in advance of its April 25 preem at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Wavelength Pictures will handle international sales for the pic, which stars Manjinder Virk, Christine Bottomley, Monica Dolan and Jimi Mistry.
The fiction-doc, seen as one of the most anticipated titles for the fest, portrays the life of the late Bradford playwright Andrea Dunbar, who is best known as the writer of “Rita Sue and Bob Too.” Alan Clarke’s film version of the play was selected for the Cannes Film Festival in 1987. The film’s title is the same name as Dunbar’s first play, written when he was 15.
Tracy O’Riordan produced the pic.
Pic is funded by Artangel and the U.K. Film Council in association with Jerwood Charitable Foundation, the Arts Council of England and More4.
