LONDON — Vertigo Films is making its second 3D live-action pic based on Novel Entertainment’s children’s property “Horrid Henry.”
The pic, which the shingle is co-producing with Novel, is based on Francesca Simon’s literary character Horrid Henry, which is the second most successful children’s character in the U.K. (behind Harry Potter) with book sales of more than 16 million in the territory. Simon’s books are available in 27 countries and have been translated into 27 languages.
The announcement comes after Vertigo’s $30 million box-office hit “Street Dance 3D” hit European screens on May 21. The shingle will produce the pic with the same 3D team, Paradise FX Europe.
Brit editor Nick Moore (“Love Actually,” “Nanny McPhee”) will direct the pic, making this project his second directorial effort after 2008’s “Wild Child.”
Casting has already begun and filming is scheduled to take place during October and November this year. It is set to be shot entirely on location in the U.K. and is slated for release in 2011.
Lucinda Whitely, co-producer for Novel Entertainment, will pen the pic’s script while Vertigo’s Allan Niblo and Rupert Preston will also produce.
Vertigo Films will distribute the pic in the U.K. with Protagonist Pictures taking international sales.
Story will follow Horrid Henry waging his ever constant battle against the tyranny of adults as he forms an unlikely alliance with his little brother Perfect Peter and girl-next-door Moody Margaret.
