Ventana Sur, Latin America’s biggest film market, will add TV to its second edition in December.
Ventana Sur, a joint venture of the Cannes Festival and Market and Argentina’s Incaa Film Institute, will open up exhibition space for Latin American public service TV programming, according to Incaa prexy Liliana Mazure.
Move reflects the flowering of pubcasting in Latin America, seen in the launch of Argentine DTT feeds Canal Encuentro, run by the Ministry of Education, and Incaa TV, the institute’s satellite movie channel, due to bow this year.
It also comes as Incaa preps a public TV fund to co-finance public service programming in Argentina plus its upcoming Incaa TV, whose acquisitions will be run by Incaa’s international department.
Incaa will also push international TV co-productions, Mazure said.
Ventana Sur runs Dec. 3-6 at Buenos Aires’ Cinemark Puerto Madero eight-plex.Incaa has rented space outdoors around the Puerto Madero plex, allowing execs to pow-wow by the River Plate while basking in Argentina’s early summer sun.
The first edition saw multiple deals on Latin American pics, including a pick-up by Eric Lagesse’s Pyramide for France and international on Mexican sex drama “Leap Year,” helmed by Michael Rowe.
“Year,” which bowed before buyers in rough cut at Ventana Sur’s Primer Corte strand, went on to play Cannes Directors’ Fortnight and win the Camera d’Or for the Cannes Festival’s best feature debut.
