'Triunfo' replaces hit telenova on Spanish net
Univision has announced which telenovela will replace this fall’s hit “Soy Tu Duena.”
The Spanish-lingo net announced Monday that “Triunfo del Amor” (Triumph of Love) would bow on Monday, Jan. 3 at 9 p.m.
That’s the slot that “Duena” has held for the second half of 2010 — scoring Univision’s best telenovela ratings in nearly 20 years.
“Triunfo” stars novela favorites Maité Perroni (“Cuidado con el Ángel”) and William Levy (“Cuidado con el Ángel”). Produced by Salvador Mejía, the novela also stars Victoria Ruffo and Daniela Romo.
“Triunfo” stars Perroni as Maria Desamparada, an aspiring model who eventually falls under the wing of a top fashion designer (Ruffo). Maria eventually carries on an affair with the designer’s stepson — and later discovers a deeper secret: Her boyfriend’s son is her birth mother.
“Triunfo” has a lot to live up to: “Soy tu duena” scored as the fall’s top-rated new drama among adults 18-34, beating all English language entries.
