UK critics laud ‘Social Network’

Facebook drama takes best pic, screenwriter

David Fincher’s “The Social Network” won film of the year and screenwriter honors for Aaron Sorkin at the fifth Richard Attenborough Film Awards, Blighty’s regional critics’ kudos, at a ceremony in London on Sunday.

Christopher Nolan nabbed filmmaker of the year for “Inception,” while Colin Firth took best actor for his role in Tom Hooper’s “The King’s Speech.”

“The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” topliner Noomi Rapace picked up actress of the year. Chloe Moretz was lauded as rising star for her perfs in “Kick-Ass,” “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” and “Let Me In.”

Michael Caine won the All Time Legend award.

There are 14 categories in the Richard Attenborough Film Awards, or Rafas. Seven are chosen by regional film critics and seven are decided by the public.

In the people’s choice categories, decided by an online vote, Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story 3” nabbed animated film, 3D film and family film of the year.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,” the penultimate installment of the franchise, was voted British film of the year.

Angelina Jolie’s perf in “Salt” earned her the public vote for film star of 2010.

The public named Moretz breakthrough star of the year for her role in “Kick-Ass,” while “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’s” character, Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, was awarded top film character.
