Match was most-watched soccer contest in U.S. history.

The Saturday afternoon match in which the Americans were eliminated from the World Cup was the most-watched soccer contest in U.S. history.

According to Nielsen, 19.4 million witnessed the game in which Ghana beat the U.S. 2-1 on both ABC and Univision combined, beating out the Italy-Brazil World Cup final in 1994 that was seen by the 18.1 million seen on those same two networks.

An earlier estimate had 14.8 million watching the game on the Alphabet, 13% higher than the opening game of the U.S. versus England.

The World Cup final will be aired July 11 on ABC.
