BSkyB topper to rep TV biz

LONDON — BSkyB topper Sophie Turner Laing has been appointed VP of BAFTA.

She succeeds Michael Grade, the former executive chairman of ITV.

Turner Laing, a BAFTA member since 2001 and a trustee since 2006, will rep the U.K. television biz and joins Duncan Kenworthy, the VP who reps film.

She said: “The Academy plays an extremely valuable and vital role in shaping the cultural landscape of British film, television and video games with the identification and honoring of excellence in these fields.

“I am truly honored and delighted to accept the role of vice president and I look forward to continuing the stellar work of my predecessor.”

Turner Laing is BSkyB’s managing director, entertainment, news and broadcast operations.

Prior to joining the U.K. paybox, she was the BBC’s controller of program acquisitions.
