Shaw, Janis, Salmon kick off venture

LONDON — Producer Matthew Byam Shaw, general manager Nia Janis and executive producer Nick Salmon will ankle West End producing and general management company ACT Prods. in April to launch Playful Prods., a new theater production and general management company.

ACT, whose current slate includes the London runs of “Wicked” and “Dirty Dancing,” plus recent Tony-winning Broadway transfers of “Frost/Nixon” and “Boeing-Boeing,” has announced it is exiting the business of general managing legit productions for third-party producers.

ACT will continue as a co-producer on both “Legally Blonde” and the Broadway-bound “Enron,” but will in future focus its resources on development and production activities. Byam Shaw will transfer all of his producing interests to Playful, which opens for business April 26.
