Toho was Japan’s top-earning distrib in the first half of 2010 with a box office of $289 million, according to figures compiled by the Bunka Tsushin entertainment news service.
Disney came in second with $183 million, followed by Fox with $170 million, Warner with $119 million and Toei with $82 million.
The total first-half B.O. for the top 13 distribs, both foreign and domestic, was $1.097 billion.
Fox was boosted by “Avatar,” which raked in $177 million, while “Alice in Wonderland” brought in $135 million for Disney.
Toho had several hit pics, the biggest being the two “Nodame Cantabile” music-themed romantic comedies, whose combined B.O. was $84 million.
