Abu Dhabi’s Imagenation and producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald have optioned the rights to Richard Matheson’s novel “Earthbound.”
It’s the first project acquired solely through the $10 million revolving fund to develop films inked between Imagenation and Parkes/MacDonald Prods. last October. Matheson’s novel follows a couple on their second honeymoon as they attempt to rekindle their marriage. The husband is visited by a beautiful stranger and succumbs to her temptation. When he attempts to end their affair, however, he begins to suspect that the enigmatic lady may be a ghost. Ronnie Christensen is writing the script. Pic will be produced by Parkes, MacDonald, Keri Selig and executive produced by Lindsay Devlin. The project was brought in by Parkes/MacDonald executive Marc Resteghini. Deal follows the recent announcements that Parkes/MacDonald and Imagenation were partnering with DreamWorks, with whom the U.S. producers have a first-look deal, on “Museum of SuperNatural History,” based on Ernest Lupinacci’s website; and “Eat, Sleep, Poop: A Common Sense Guide to Your Baby’s First Year,” written by pediatrician Scott W. Cohen. “Earthbound” does not have studio involvement at this stage. Imagenation, launched in September 2008, has inked $250 million deals with Participant Media and Hyde Park Entertainment and a $100 million deal with National Geographic Films. It also has a separate $75 million joint venture with Hyde Park Entertainment and Singapore’s MDA.
