John de Mol’s Talpa Media has announced a 50-50 joint venture with Portuguese TV producer CBV.
Move complements a similar deal with Spain’s Boomerang TV, unveiled March 4, and continues a wave of international deals by the Dutch reality TV pioneer.
“Portugal is not the biggest market in the world, but it is open and competitive,” De Mol said.
Joint venture with CBV will have the exclusive right to sell, adapt and produce all Talpa formats in Portugal. This includes reality TV, gameshows and scripted formats.
CBV’s Piet-Hein Bakker will lead the venture. Bakker and fellow CBV directors Pedro Curto and Vasco Vilarinho worked for De Mol’s Endemol before going it alone in 2007.
